Green Hills
This bright and cozy living room with butter-yellow walls and a blue-tinted ceiling is both family-friendly and inviting. My client wanted a white sofa but has 3 teenagers, a dog, and a husband. Being the owners of a Wine Shop in Nashville they LOVE their red wine! So what do you do in that situation?
You call your interior designer, who has the knowledge and resources for all of your interior design dreams.
I sourced a Crypton fabric for the sofa, a commercial-grade fabric that the residential industry has eaten up lately! My client’s husband spilled a glass of red wine on it as she knew he would and it just rolled off, perfect solution! Crypton, unlike Sunbrella fabric, can be upholstered onto a piece of furniture and be cleaned or just wiped off with a dry cloth whereas sunbrella type fabrics are only guaranteed if you can take it off of the furniture and launder it. I learned that the hard way and bring those 30 years of experience and knowledge to all of my interior design projects.
I love maps as a part of an interior design project! This map was special to the homeowners and made for a great statement piece for the living room walls. I have used maps in stairwells, bedrooms, living spaces, and in recreational spaces. They are so fun to look at and study as well as make great accessories to finish off a room.
Original ART! One of my most favorite things for the home. Especially local art from local artists and local galleries. This piece was chosen by the client from a Memphis artist. What fun this one-of-a-kind piece has been to work around to pull the room together. The turquoises, greens, and white tones with pops of tomato red, and tangerine orange were carried throughout the living room with fabrics, furniture, and accessories.
You can start with one favorite thing. It can be anything, even something you love from your wardrobe to start your vision for the room that your interior designer can take it and run with it.
There is no more opinionated client than a teenage girl! I have done many many kids’ rooms, teen rooms, and nurseries, all of which I love to do. The challenges that a teenage girl brings to me are always fun to take on. This particular sweet girl was one of the more laid-back and easy to work with. Her puppy dog (who has shown up in many of the photos of this home) agrees and loves the camera as you can see.
I wish I had a before picture of this powder room, such a difference! I selected this fun starburst wallpaper bringing in the turquoise blues from the living room and flowing throughout the house. Wallpaper is back, and a passion for bright colors, bold patterns, and large scale in smaller spaces really makes a statement. Also, if you didn’t know, gold is also back! These gold sconces were chosen to mirror the starburst pattern in the wallpaper. Pop a contemporary gold mirror up in between and you’ve got a stylish new powder room for your guests to admire.
Another fun thing to bring into a room to freshen up the look is a cool, limited edition, specialty poster, framed to give it more of a finished look. Bring in something that is meaningful to your and your family’s lives and interests. This family happened to love the Historic Bluebird Café in Nashville, Tn. I have designed rooms with Mardi Gras limited edition posters, Memphis in May, The Masters, and football memorabilia. Anything that is special to you will work to add some interest to your space. Great for bonus rooms, home offices, kitchens, or any casual room to make it your own.
Bright colors, lots of patterns, and mixed styles are the definition of interior design trends in 2023!
