Every client is special and an individual with their own tastes and preferences. My job is to bring it all together for them to be able to enjoy their home to the fullest, in each and every room. This particular client, I’ve worked with for over 20 years and on 2 different houses, through holiday decorating and post-Covid refresh. Her particular passion is for the Great Apes, yes, Chimpanzees, Gorillas, and Orangutans! She has traveled to Africa and Asia to visit them up close and in person, as well as in the United States where some of the apes live in preserves and rescues where she has had hands-on contact with these majestic animals and more.

In the foyer we found large maps of the regions where The Apes live in their natural habitats, framed them and created a large gallery wall going up,the staircase to fill the big walls to scale.

There is the “art gallery” where she has collected paintings from all kinds of different animals, even a hippopotamus kiss! These special paintings have been custom framed and hung with placards naming who painted each one creating a very interesting and comfortable room to lounge and maybe watch animal planet.

The bonus room has portraits of some of the Apes that she has supported care for and whom are very special to her. We included tropical type accessories like this one-of-a-kind large pillow and artichoke lamp that reminded me of bananas. There is a custom, hand made beautiful wooden bar for guests to enjoy while watching the Vandy games! The curved wooden art behind the bar reminded me of the trees and vines the apes play amongst. This is such a large room and we took advantage of every space.

Opposite the bar nook is a reading nook with an animal print Love Sac and African handmade baskets.

Even in the formal living room with its lacquered walls and warm colors with the browns in the rug with a soft red (color of 2023) is inviting and cozy with a slight hint of what could be a subtle animal print velvet wavy stripe from Lee Jofa Fabrics.

It doesn’t have to look like a wild and crazy jungle to bring in these aspects into this home. It can be very tastefully done like this one. So what is your passion and how do you envision it incorporated into your home?
