There’s so much to love about the autumn season, and one of my favorite things is seasonal entertaining! Halloween has no shortage of reasons to gather with friends and celebrate all that is spooky, stunning and fun.
I’ve scoured the wonderful world of Pinterest and found my top 5 fall decorating ideas, and I’m so excited to share these with you now.
Halloween Themed Tablescapes:
This table setting created by Fantasy Fabric Designs feels to me as if Beetlejuice threw a classy dinner party (minus those crazy sandworms!). The height the candles add to the display, and this stylish tablecloth is just the right amount of sophisticated, spooky whimsy. The understated white pumpkins scattered throughout are also very festive without being the so obvious “It’s fall orange” color scheme.
Cozy-up Your Space with Warmer Tones
With the days getting shorter, it’s getting darker, earlier…that can be a bummer but it can also be an opportunity to look at your home and create added comfort and peacefulness within those walls. This library space I got to create, with its warm colors and soft fabrics, is exactly the kind of room you want to sit in to get your cozy autumn fix any time of year. Warm colors like red, orange and yellow evoke a feeling a comfort and can help make large spaces feel cozier and more intimate–perfect for staying in and curling up with a good book!
Embrace the Unexpected!
Since we are already thinking of the impending darker days of late fall and winter, it’s important to think about your lighting. I love the unexpected elements I was able to add to this room. It’s not often that we see two chandeliers over a dining room table, traditionally most homes feature only one chandelier per room, but it works to add visual interest in this space because of the size and shape of the table. Adding a little extra purpose to the chandeliers, they also correlate nicely with the console table. Another exciting lighting twist we’ve added to this traditional room are the two small lamps on the console. Finally, the custom window treatments feature classic Schumacher Fabric, and pulls in the fall like color from the artwork to unite each element in this space while keeping the space mostly neutral.
No-Carve Pumpkins
We all love a good pumpkin display but when you carve them, their shelf life is greatly diminished…not to mention the messy feat of hollowing out the gourd. We all know carving a pumpkin is fun *in theory* but once I’ve done one, I start to wonder why I agreed to carving 4 pumpkins. Opt to paint your pumpkin for a whole new way to decorate with the seasons hottest fall fruit (YES, pumpkins are indeed a FRUIT!) I love the way these painted gourds turned out, by For Pete’s Sake Pottery. Painting allows you more freedom to play with color, shape and even theme them based on your favorite color palette or scary movie!
Utilize Natural Elements
An unexpected way to decorate for fall is to build out displays with elements you can find in nature. This grouping of accessories created by Harlowe James accomplishes this in a way that is seasonal and timeless. I really love how she added texture with the branches, and the gold skull is a classy nod to Halloween. Each piece relates to the space without feeling cluttered, and brings the outdoors inside without being over the top.
